After a hot and heavy bidding war at Sundance for Lone Scherfig’s touted “An Education,” the likes of Fox Searchlight et al lost the North American rights to none other than Sony Pictures Classics for a cool $3 mil. SPC had a trio of pics that at one point or other seemed like perfect Best Actress candidates (”Frozen River” (bought at Sundance last year), “Rachel Getting Married” and “I’ve Loved You So Long”), and we will see tomorrow just how well their campaigns pay off.
